Just before Christmas, Airtel Kenya announced a promotional offer through which Airtel subscribers would see their call rates to other local networks cut down to just Ksh 1 per minute. I’m an Airtel customer but in the festive craze, I saw and dismissed the offer, mostly because of all the confussion and complaints to Airtel Kenya’s official Twitter handle.
But then its January and as expected, things are a little tight and I though, why not check it out?
#ChapaStoriNaBob see subscribers enjoy free Airtel to Airtel calls, as well as KES 1 for calls made to other networks. This effectively makes the offer the lowest we have seen compared to similar promotions offered by rival carriers.
Only one that comes close is Safaricom’s celebration of their 18th Birthday which offers subscribers 18 minutes across any network at 18/-. The catch with that offer is, you only get to subscribe to the offer once a day so if you’ve used up your 18 minutes, you have to wait till the following day.
Airtel’s #ChapaStoriNaBob is available in two plans. A one day package costs KES 15 and lasts for 24 hours and there’s also a KES 30 package that lasts for 3 days. The promotion is available to all Airtel customers through to the end of January 2019.
The free On-Net minutes are capped at a maximum of 100 minutes per user per day. This is similar to the Tubonge package that is still being offered by the carrier and what still remains unclear is if Tubonge subscribers are still eligible for this promotion. And if they are, Tubonge already offers them 100 on-net minutes so do they get an extra 100 on-net minutes when they subscribe to the #ChapaStoriNaBob?
