What We Really Like

The Fire HD 8 has been on the market for some time now, but it has undergone several updates throughout the years to keep it competitive. Not to mention that the device is extraordinarily affordable; consumers can expect to pay less than $100 for one Fire HD 8 (with ad support), and there are no features excluded from this pricing. But beyond that, there are several reasons why you might want to consider purchasing one of these tablets.

Multiple Features and Options

Fire HD 8 is available in black, blue, purple, or white. Initially, the lower-priced model comes with 32GB of storage, but you can upgrade to 64GB for $30 or remove the ads for $15. It also has a microSD card slot for media storage that supports all current card capacities.

User-Friendly Interface

If you don’t want to use an app, the Fire HD 8 has a MicroSD slot, which allows you to download your own media onto a MicroSD card and then view it on the tablet. This is a great way to watch home videos, movies, and more, without taking up too much of the processor’s bandwidth.

Full-Color HD Screen

For those who like Kindle products but don’t care for some of the black and white screen options, this full-color HD tablet will not disappoint.

The screen is vibrant and clear, making it easy on the eyes. It also allows users to browse books in color, and although people say not to judge a book by its cover, it really does make a difference when choosing a book! The 8-inch screen display is approximately the size of a small paperback book, and while reading, it is very comfortable to hold the “book” and flip the pages as you read.

What Could Be Better

While there are many nice things about the Fire HD 8, there are also some obvious disadvantages. Although they aren’t deal breakers for everyone, they are important to note and understand before committing to the tablet.

Slow Processor

Even though the Fire HD 8 is the updated version of the classic device with a newer processor, it still suffers from some problems. It is well known that these tablets are known to be slower than other options available.

And they can get bogged down, easily struggling to load certain applications or download content. Sometimes, if you decide to make a search with the tablet’s built-in browser, you’ll notice a significant slowdown—and there are times when it may be more convenient to pull out a smartphone to finish your browsing session.

Lack of Apps

There is no doubt that this device will work just fine if you are aiming to just use the device for light reading or other basic needs. However, this tablet is not the right choice if you want to search the internet, stream, access multiple games and content, and do productive work.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the Fire HD 8 is a decent quality tablet at a moderate price. If you are looking for a tablet with a tight budget, this is an amazing little device to start with. It has all the basic requirements any decent tablet needs. However, you’re better off searching elsewhere if you really want a device with unmatched speed, space, and app variety.
