Amd Presents Crossfire Support For Freesync And Windows 10 Compatible Drivers

AMD recently released new Catalyst 15.7 drivers for Windows with a bunch of new features and performance improvements. This new driver pack introduces CrossFire support for AMD’s FreeSync, WDDM 2.o’s compatibility with Windows 10 and more useful features and enhancements.

Something that will delight all PC gamers is the fact that AMD added a CrossFire support for its FreeSync. This feature was one of the most requested features recently, and AMD surely did a good job with bringing it, because NVidia’s G-Sync already has this feature and AMD finally closed that gap. Along with support, this release also brings profile enhancements for CrossFire systems in various games. AMD also announced that this release will bring the full compatibility of WDDM 2.0 with Windows 10, as well as DirectX 12 support for Radeon HD 7000 and newer cards.

Catalyst 15.7 drivers brought performance improvements to all supported cards in a huge variety of PC games, and also introduced some new features and improvements to older AMD’s cards. Frame Rate Control allows you to set your GPU output from 55 to 95fps, and VSR (Virtual Super Resolution) allows you to render games at higher resolution than your monitor’s, which will bring even better graphical experience to players. Both of these features weren’t included in the previous update for R9 200 series cards, but will now be available for many older cards from this series, along with AMD’s APUs, from the 7400K and above.

As we said, FreeSync is AMD’s rival of NVidia’s G-Sync and is a variable refresh rate technology based on Adaptive Sync protocol from DisplayPort. FreeSync allows the refresh rate of the monitor to be synced with the GPU’s output, which reduces the screen tearing and stuttering.

The new Catalyst update arrives just in time for the final release of Windows 10 on July 29th.
