Microsoft brought a lot of good news at Build 2016 and luckily, the news continues to trickle in about its upcoming Anniversary Update for Windows 10. Recently, Microsoft’s software engineer Jen Gentleman confirmed on Twitter that Windows 10 will bring taskbar badges to universal apps. Not only did she confirm the information, she even posted a picture of what the taskbar badges will look like. In other words, the major apps running on your desktop will have a badge on the taskbar with the number of unread notifications, a useful feature especially for social networking apps such as Facebook or for an Outlook account.

Of course, don’t expect Microsoft to roll this update out in the coming days. Just like any new feature, it must first be tested to make sure it works properly. It’s likely the next build will also incorporate this feature, with the first to test it being those in the Windows Insider program. Once green-lit, the feature will most likely be available with the upcoming Anniversary Build this summer.
This isn’t a completely brand new idea out of Microsoft. For example, notifications are already available on Skype every time someone sends a message. So far, users like this idea, even suggesting to Microsoft that the app tile or the taskbar should flash in different colors when the notification color changes. Let’s see if this suggestion will be taken into account by Microsoft’s engineers.
