Asus  unveiled the ZenScreen monitor during the IFA 2016 event held in Berlin, Germany. The device is actually a portable monitor made to add an extra screen space for users working on a hybrid or laptop device.

Jen Chuang, Asus Design Center Director, said that “when computers get smaller, sometimes we feel restricted by the screen size” and “ZenScreen is designed to enlarge your workspace, so you can multitask with an extended view anywhere you want”.

ZenScreen is the thinnest and lightest 15.6-inch portable display out there. The screen is only 8mm thick, has an ultra-thin 6.5mm bezel, and it weighs only 800 grams. The device comes with a USB port that supports both Type-C and Type-A connections. This port will be used to charge its battery and to connect the display to other hardware (any laptop that has a USB Type-C or Type-A port).

The device also comes with a foldable smart case that offers extra protection, but will also be used to prop it up in both landscape and portrait orientations. However, if you don’t use the smart case, you can also insert a pen into a hole at the bottom of the display and be able to prop it up with ease.

When it comes to the release date of the ZenScreen, we can’t say much about it as Asus wants to keep this a secret for now. But we do know that the display will be sold for about €269, which is about $300. Asus will most likely reveal the release date of the ZenScreen sometime in the next few weeks.

What are your thoughts about ZenScreen? Will you purchase it for your laptop once released?
