A couple of weeks ago, we introduced you to a new tool called ColorSync that lets you automatically set Start screen background color as window border and taskbar color in Windows 8.1. The good news is that the developer of this tool has updated the tool and it now can now automatically set the window border color as Start screen background color.
Users who would like to have desktop theme color as Start screen background color can use this tool. The advantage of the newly introduced feature is that one can now configure Windows 8.1 to automatically change Start screen background.
All you have to do is apply a theme with multiple desktop backgrounds (most of the themes out there include multiple backgrounds), set the theme color to Automatic, and then run the newest version of ColorSync.
For instance, you could apply the Lines and Colors theme in Windows 8.1 (this theme uses Automatic color feature), run the ColorSync tool, and then change its settings to set window border color as Start screen background color. Once done, whenever the desktop background changes, Windows changes the color of window borders and taskbar to match the desktop background, and then ColorSync sets the new color as your Start screen background color.
If you’re not sure how to achieve this, follow given below instructions:
NOTE: This method doesn’t work if you have configured Windows 8.1 to set desktop background picture as Start background image.
Step 1: Download ColorSync from this page, extract the contents of zip file to get ColorSync executable, and then double-click on the executable to run the same.
Step 2: By default, ColorSync sets Start screen background color as window border color. You have to change this default setting. Right-click on the ColorSync icon in the system tray and then click on Aero –> Start Screen option.
Step 3: Next step is to apply a new theme with multiple backgrounds and set the color to Automatic. To do this, right-click on desktop, click Personalize to open Personalization window, click on a theme with multiple backgrounds (for example, Lines and colors theme).
Step 4: Skip this step if the color is already set to Automatic. Click Color option in the Personalization window and then select the first color tile titled Automatic and then click Apply button to configure Windows to automatically change window border and taskbar color to match the desktop background color. That’s it!
From now on, whenever your desktop background changes, not only window border and taskbar get a new color but also your Start screen background.
