Michael Ancel, director of Beyond Good and Evil, recently shut down all rumors suggesting the possible termination of Beyond Good and Evil 2 before it even saw the light of day. He further added that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is “a very serious development for Ubisoft“.

Ancel affirmed that the game would be massive in scope and will even take on interstellar juggernauts like Star Citizen.
The game Beyond Good and Evil 2 was first announced in 2008 and disappeared until just last month when Michael Ancel shared some images of Beyond Good and Evil 2 on his Instagram to give slight reassurance to passionate gamers waiting for its release. Ancel explained that the idea was to share the concept art, also assuring that its development never came to a halt and has been in process since the release of Rayman Legends.
“We’re looking at games like Star Citizen and seeing they have these big planet systems and thinking ‘We have the same problems but we are more advanced on this side, [whereas] they’re doing something nice on this side,’” Ancel said.
Ancel also put heavy emphasis on the integration of interplanetary travel in Beyond Good and Evil 2, saying that:
He didn’t actually reveal any information regarding its official release, something we don’t expect to happen anytime soon.
“Even on Beyond Good and Evil 1 it was supposed to have space travel and all these things but we were limited,” Ancel says. “The big thing that is really cool is that the consoles are now so powerful […] The amount of memory the CPU has, you can do those things now. It’s not ‘Oh, we will never do it.’ It’s working.”
“I’ve been working on [Beyond Good and Evil 2] for a long time, on the technologies that allow you to create those kinds of games – tools to draw the big planets and things like that. We’re confident on the quality and that we can achieve that kind of game.”
Another reason why Ubisoft’s development team, armed with the power of modern day CPU and GPU tech, is excessively dedicated to perfecting this specific game is because the sequel is everything the devs weren’t able to achieve in the first game, ideas that have been kept alive for quite some time.
Along with the much awaited Beyond Good and Evil 2, Ancel is also steering the development of Wild, the open-world survival game where you can possess eagles and ride bears.
