Blink offers a range of security systems for both indoor and outdoor use. Most of the messages given by the Blink system are easy to understand, but one that may cause confusion is the “System Unavailable” message. What does this mean, and how can you fix it?

The most common reason Blink systems become unavailable is because of an unstable internet connection. It could also be an issue with the password you use to access the Blink app, or the camera as a whole.

Below, we’ll discuss the reasons you may get this message and how you can fix it. Keep reading to learn more!

Blink manufactures excellent wireless security systems, which you can place anywhere in your home.

Staying connected to what is happening in your home can give you peace of mind, no matter where life has taken you.

So, when your Blink system says “System Unavailable,” it can make you uneasy.

Your Blink system may say “System Unavailable” for the following reasons:

  • No internet connection
  • Inactive Sync Module
  • Incorrect password

Below, we’ll discuss how you can troubleshoot each problem and get your system back online.

No Internet Connection

Blink camera systems need to be connected to Wi-Fi in order to work.

If your Blink system is unavailable, the first thing you should do is ensure the system is fully connected to your Wi-Fi network.

You can check this on the app, or your Sync Module if you have one connected.

If your Blink system is still unavailable, rebooting your router can help it to reconnect to the internet. This is most helpful if your internet connection is unstable.

To reboot your router, unplug it for at least 30 seconds. Then, turn it back on and allow it to reconnect to all your devices.

Inactive Sync Module

If you’re connected to the internet but still see a “System Unavailable” message, the issue may be with your Sync Module.

A Blink Sync Module allows you to connect additional video devices to a USB flash drive to store motion-triggered alerts.

This is an additional item you can purchase to add to your Blink system.

Check the Blink app and ensure your Sync Module is active. If it is marked as inactive, your Blink System won’t work.

You can also tell if the Sync Module is active by looking at your camera. If you see a blue light, it’s active. If you see a red light, it’s inactive.

Incorrect Password

If your system is still unavailable, resetting your Blink password may help resolve it. You should be able to do so on the Blink App.

To reset your Blink password, you must first log out of your account. When you log back in, press “Forgot Password” or “Reset Password.” Follow the instructions to reset your password, then log back into your account.

If you can rule out the situations listed above, there are a few steps you can take to get your Blink system back online.

These include:

  • Perform a power cycle
  • Move the camera closer to your Sync Module
  • Reconnect your camera to the app
  • Perform a factory reset

Below, we’ll discuss each of these four fixes.

Perform a Power Cycle

If your Blink System is unavailable, the first thing to try is a power cycle.

Power cycling your Blink camera can clear temporary glitches. Follow the correct steps for your situation below to perform a power cycle on your system:

  • Battery-powered cameras: Remove the batteries for five seconds, then reinsert them.
  • USB cable-powered cameras: Unplug the cable from the wall outlet or camera, wait five seconds, and plug the cable back in.

Now, check the Blink app and see if the system is back online.

Move the Camera Closer to Your Sync Module

Sometimes, your Blink camera may not be able to pick up a signal due to the distance from the Sync Module.

Moving your device closer may allow it to connect. It’s typically a good idea to place your Sync Module in a central location in your home or office.

Reconnect Your Camera to the App

Reconnecting your camera to the Blink app can help reactivate it.

You can do this by pressing and holding the reset button for 15-90 seconds until you see a red light. Then, allow a few seconds for it to fully shut down and turn it back on.

Perform a Factory Reset

You can also troubleshoot your Blink camera by resetting it to the factory settings. This will clear all your settings and preferences, but it’s a great last resort when nothing else works.

Follow the steps below to perform a factory reset.

  • Locate the reset button on the bottom of the camera. This will be a small hole, and you’ll need to use something like a paperclip to press the button.
  • Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds.

This will start your system from scratch. You will need to reset any of the personal settings you had before.

In Conclusion

If your Blink system is giving you an “Unavailable” message, the first thing to check is your internet connection.

You might also need to check your Sync Module, or adjust some settings in the Blink app. If all else fails, rebooting or resetting your system should do the trick.
