Like its predecessor Windows 8, the new Windows 10 also supports burning and mounting ISO and IMG image files. PC users can burn and mount ISO and IMG files in Windows 10 without the help of third-party software.
As you likely know, Windows 7 allows you to burn ISO files, but it’s not possible to mount ISO or IMG without the help of third-party software.
Burning an ISO image file to CD/DVD is relatively straightforward in Windows 10/8/7. You just need to navigate to the folder containing the ISO or IMG file, right-click on the file, and then click the Burn disc image option to launch Windows Disc Image Burner dialog where you need select the optical (CD/DVD) drive and then click the Burn option to burn the selected ISO or IMG file to CD/DVD.
But did you know that you can also burn an ISO or IMG file from the Command Prompt as well without following the standard procedure? Yes, it’s possible to initiate a disc image burn operation right from the Command Prompt in Windows 10/8/7.
Burn ISO/IMG image file from Command Prompt in Windows 10
Follow the given below directions to burn an ISO or IMG file from Command Prompt in Windows 10/8/7.
Step 1: Open Command Prompt either by typing CMD in Start menu search box or Run command box.
Step 2: In the Command Prompt, type the following command and then press Enter key.
isoburn.exe /Q [path to ISO file]
For instance, if an ISO image file named Example.ISO file is located in the root of the “C” drive, then you would type the following command.
isoburn.exe /Q C:\Example.iso
If there is an empty CD/DVD in the optical drive, Windows will start burning the file.
Step 3: If there is no blank CD/DVD in the tray, you will see Disc Image Burner. As you can see in the picture below, if there is no blank CD/DVD in the optical drive, you will see “There is no recordable disc in your disc burner” message.
Insert an empty CD/DVD and click the Burn button to begin burning the selected ISO image file. If you want to verify the disc for any errors after burning, check the option labeled Verify disc after burning option before clicking the Burn button.
