Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is an enthralling first-person shooter for Windows. Yet, some players have reported issues with that game’s settings not saving. When those players change some options in Modern Warfare, the settings reset (don’t save) after restarting the game.

  • Controlled folder access is often the cause for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare not saving settings.

  • When Modern Warfare’s graphics settings keep resetting, you might need to disable certain Windows Security features.

  • Deleting certain Battle.net config files might also help when Modern Warfare or Warzone settings keep resetting.

  • Download Restoro PC Repair Tool that comes with Patented Technologies (patent available here).

  • Click Start Scan to find Windows issues that could be causing PC problems.

  • Click Repair All to fix issues affecting your computer’s security and performance

  • Restoro has been downloaded by 0 readers this month.

That issue typically arises for the game’s graphical and key bind settings. Consequently, players can’t change the graphics and keyboard control options for Modern Warfare. They might still be able to play the game ok, but players sometimes need to adjust such settings to optimize Warfare.

The same issue can also arise for Warzone, which is Modern Warfare’s battle royale game. Do you need to fix settings not saving in Modern Warfare/Warzone? If so, the potential resolutions below might be of help to you.

How Come Modern Warfare isn’t saving my game settings?

Controlled folder access is one of the most widely cited reasons for savings not saving in Modern Warzone and other Windows games. That feature can stop games from changing files in certain folders. Thus, it can block Modern Warfare from modifying files in protected folders to save settings.

However, Controlled folder access isn’t necessarily the only cause for Modern Warfare not saving game settings. Sometimes games can’t save settings because their files and folders might be locked by read-only mode.

Conflicting software can be another potential cause for Modern Warfare not saving settings. Some third-party antivirus utilities, or other background programs, might interfere with Warfare’s configuration files.

Some PC issues are hard to tackle, especially when it comes to corrupted repositories or missing Windows files. If you are having troubles fixing an error, your system may be partially broken. What is Controlled folder access?

Controlled folder access is a Windows Security feature. That feature stops suspect programs from making changes to protected folders. It is primarily included to forestall ransomware in Windows 11/10.

Disabling Controlled folder access, as outlined in the first resolution, is one way you can stop that feature blocking games from saving settings. However, you can instead add Modern Warfare to its trusted apps list and keep Controlled folder access on. This is how to set up a CFA exception for Modern Warfare.

  • Open the Controlled folder access setting as outlined in the first resolution.
  • Select the Allow an app through Controlled folder access option.
  • Click the Add an allowed app option, and select Browse all apps.
  • Select the Modern Warfare Launcher.exe, and press the Open button.
  • Repeat step three, select ModernWarfare.exe, and click Open.

Many players have confirmed they’ve been able to fix Modern Warfare not saving settings with those potential resolutions. That necessarily doesn’t mean those fixes will work for all players, but they’re certainly worth a try.

If those resolutions don’t fix Modern Warfare not saving settings, you can contact Activision’s support service for more troubleshooting advice.
