People often think that just because a smart device is made by a particular company or carrier that you can’t install certain apps. This is true for Apple products as they have iOS-specific apps and programs, and some Android apps and programs are not cross compatible either. However, all Android products can have the same apps and programs downloaded.

Now, let’s take a look at the next step.

Check Your Device’s Model

After enabling Apps from Unknown Sources, you will need to download APK files, also known as Android Package files. However, since each Fire tablet runs on different hardware, you need to go into your settings again and check your model information and your tablet’s OS version.

To do this, follow these steps:

  • Go into SettingsFind Device Options & Systems (sometimes called Device Options)Look under Device Model.

Here is where you will find all the important operating information about your Fire device. Since this article specifically focuses on the Fire HD 10, we will explore the different generations of this model.

Download the APK Files

You will need to download three different applications before you can download the Play Store, four including the store itself. These apps are Google Account Manager, Google Services Framework, Google Play Services, and finally Google Play Store.

Below is a list of each version required depending on your Fire OS.

Google Account Manager

Here is which version of Google Account Manager you should download based on your Fire HD 10’s generation:

  • Fire HD 10 (9th and 11th Gen): Google Account Manager v7.1.2Fire HD 10 (7th Gen and older): Google Account Manager v5.1

  • Fire HD 10 (9th and 11th Gen): Google Services Framework v9-4832352Fire HD 10 (7th Gen and older): Google Services Framework v5.1

Now, let’s look at what versions you’ll need for Google Play Services.

Google Play Services

The next and final application you’ll need to download is the Google Play Store itself.

Google Play Store

All Fire Tablet models can install the latest version of Google Play Store (universal, nodpi) that is shown in the app store.

What You Should Know About Downloading APK Files

Some apps come pre downloaded on your device and some can be downloaded manually through APK files, just make sure that you got the files from a trusted source because malware is often distributed through these types of .zip files.

If you get a popup while installing these APK files and you know they are the legitimate versions rather than scam or hack versions, all you need to do is select Allow on the popup window. If you want to skip the popups, you will need to enable this option in your Silk Browser, which you can find in the browsers settings, although it is not recommended due to security assurances.

Install the APK Files

To start installing everything, follow these steps:

  • Go to your Files app on your tablet (sometimes it’s called Docs or Documents) Once located, go ahead and open the app up and find your Downloads folder (this is usually located in the side menu on most Fire tablets)Now that you are in the Downloads folder, you should see all four APK files. If you don’t see four, just go back and download whichever one you missedYou should also switch the file view to List View if you haven’t already to ensure that you can fully read the names of each APK fileOpen the apps in the following order:com.google.gsf.logincom.google.android.gsfcom.google.android.gmscom.android.vendingPress Done not Open when installation is completed

If you don’t install the apps in the order listed above then Play Store wont work properly. Also, if you have an SD card in your Fire tablet, you should take it out when installing these apps. Otherwise, they will install on the SD card and then you will have to do the whole process over again if you remove it.

  • com.google.gsf.logincom.google.android.gsfcom.google.android.gmscom.android.vending

Restart Your Device

Final step is to restart your Fire tablet. This can be done by following either of these two methods:

  • Hold down the power button until a little menu pops up on the side of the screen with the options Power Off, Restart, and ScreenshotSome older models might only have the power off option. If that’s the case, then go ahead and power your tablet off, wait for a count of 10, and then power the tablet back on.

After your tablet is back on and functional, you should be able to open the Play Store.
