Many homes have multiple exterior doors and smart home users may want to install a video doorbell at each door. We’re a big fan of Ring doorbells, so we, like many others, wanted to know if we could use more than one Ring doorbell with our homes.
A home can have multiple Ring video doorbells, all functioning simultaneously. Each device can be given a unique name and ring sound in the Ring app so that the user knows which door a visitor is at.
If you have a large home with multiple exterior doors, this feature works great. You can also easily share your Ring account with family and friends if you live in the same household. You can even have multiple Ring doorbells and devices across multiple homes and properties under the same Ring account.
Can You Have Multiple Ring Doorbells in One House?
Any number of Ring doorbells can be used in one house at the same time. When someone rings your Ring doorbell or motion is detected, the Ring app’s notification chimes and then says the name of the device it came from.
When viewing recent activity in the Ring app, the main page provides a cumulative list of alerts from all of your Ring devices. You can also view each doorbell’s recent activity by clicking on the doorbell and tapping Recent Activity.
You can mix-and-match different versions of Ring video doorbells for each exterior door. For example, you may want to use a Peephole Cam at your front door, so you don’t have to drill any holes, but you may have an original Ring Doorbell that you want to use at your side door. Use them both simultaneously and move them around to fit your needs!
How to Set Up Multiple Doorbells in One Home
Before physically installing a Ring doorbell, you must set it up in the Ring app. Each doorbell must be set up individually using these steps:
- Tap “Set Up a Device.”Select the type of device you are setting up.When prompted, scan the QR code or MAC ID on the back of your Ring doorbell. The code can also be found on the box the doorbell came in and in the Quick Start Guide. Confirm your current address. If you have previously established locations with other Ring devices on your account, you can choose from a list of your locations or add a new one. Select “Custom” and give the doorbell a unique name to distinguish it from your other Ring devices.
After the set-up process in the app, follow the regular directions for physically installing your Ring doorbells. The links below provide installation instructions for each type of Ring doorbell:

Changing the Settings for Multiple Ring Doorbells
You can change a doorbell’s name and chime sound anytime in the Ring app to help distinguish it from other Ring devices.
To change the name or address of one of your doorbells, simply select the doorbell you want to change and tap the setting icons in the top-right corner. Then, choose the settings you want to change.
You also can set two different sounds for a doorbell’s ring alerts and motion alerts.
- Select the doorbell you want to change in the app and tap “App Alert Tones.”Choose the doorbell ring tone and volume you like. Then, click the tab at the top of the dashboard to choose your motion alert tone and volume.
If you use Alexa devices with your Ring doorbell, you may find that your doorbells’ names are too similar for Alexa to distinguish or that they are inconvenient to say out loud. You can change your doorbells’ names as often as you like until you find ones that work well for you. Remember that the names of the doorbells will also need to be updated in the Alexa app.
Can You Have Multiple Ring Devices in One Home?
In addition to doorbells, you can have a collection of Ring devices such as a Ring Alert security system with security cameras and smart floodlights, all operating simultaneously in one home on one Ring account.
Like with multiple Ring Doorbells, alert notifications will specify which device they are from by name. Make sure to give each device a unique name that you will remember. You can change the name of any Ring device anytime in the Ring app.
Ring security cameras are also Alexa-compatible. If you have an Alexa-enabled device with a screen such as an Echo Show or Spot, you can view the camera’s live stream and recently recorded videos using voice commands. Click here for directions to integrate your Alexa and Ring devices and a list of voice commands for Ring doorbells and cameras.
Multiple Houses or Properties with Ring Devices
You can have Ring devices at different physical locations on the same Ring account. For example, you could have a Ring Doorbell at your place of business, one at your home, and one at your vacation property. Most Ring accounts can support up to ten different locations.
If you use the Ring Alarm for home security, keep in mind that the Ring Protect professional monitoring plan only applies to one physical location. If you have two Ring Alarm systems in different locations, you will need two different monthly subscription plans for professional monitoring.
