Originally, Crunchyroll and Funimation were the two giants of the anime genre and healthy competitors. Now, there is only one; Funimation has merged with Crunchyroll to create a goliath anime streaming platform that falls under the umbrella of the Crunchyroll moniker. With that said, you may be wondering whether you can continue to log in to your old Funimation account with Crunchyroll.
You cannot log in to Funimation through Crunchyroll. You will need a separate Crunchyroll account to access Funimation and Crunchyroll’s new combined anime library.
We are extremely excited to see Funimation’s library merged with Crunchyroll’s, but the process isn’t completed. There are a few more things to be mindful of such as checking if your favorite anime is on Crunchyroll before canceling your existing Funimation account.
Can You Stream Funimation Content from Crunchyroll?
At this point, your Funimation and Crunchyroll accounts (assuming that you subscribe to both) are not linked, so if you have a particular show that hasn’t moved over to Crunchyroll, you will have to log onto Funimation to stream it.
The reverse is also true. If there is a program on Crunchyroll and you are on the Funimation platform, you won’t be able to access that content.
Can You Manage Funimation Account Information from Crunchyroll?
Funimation and Crunchyroll accounts are managed as individual accounts for now as well. Your login and payment credentials on Crunchyroll are not interchangeable with Funimation’s. If you want to continue to enjoy content on both platforms or make changes to either account, you will have to move back and forth.
In other words, mergers take time, and while the process is moving forward, you will have to be content with managing your accounts separately. This includes those who subscribe to Wakanim, which is rolling onto the Crunchyroll platform along with Funimation.
Can You Transfer Funimation Gift Cards to Crunchyroll?
There are two subsets of Funimation subscribers who are probably wondering what to do with their Funimation gift cards, as everything is going over to Crunchyroll.
Don’t be disheartened if you happen to have a Funimation gift card. According to Funimation, “Don’t discard them just yet! Keep your eyes peeled for future updates.”
There’s no need to be nervous about it because there is a process in place. While you can call customer service support if you want, the first thing they will tell you is to set up an account with Crunchyroll. So, you might as well do that first.
You don’t have to pay anything yet, as setting up an account is different from setting up a subscription with Crunchyroll, whether it’s monthly or annual.
- Go to the Crunchyroll website. At the top, right-hand corner of the Home Page, select Login. On the next page, you are presented with the option to Login or Create a New Account.Create a New Account by entering your email, password, username, and birthday.Select Create Account. On the next screen, select your Avatar.Continue to Next Screen.
At this point, you will have a free account, and you will be presented with the option of upgrading to a premium account with a 14-day free trial. However, forego that option for the moment so you can contact Funimation’s customer service.
Once you contact them through their platform, you will need to provide both the email address of your Crunchyroll account and the email address of your Funimation account.
Can You Transfer Funimation Subscriptions to Crunchyroll?
So long as you purchased your Funimation subscription before February 28, you will get a free, 60-day trial as a Crunchyroll Premium subscriber.
Now, that obviously won’t cover a full year’s worth of Funimation’s annual subscription terms, so it is necessary to contact customer support. However, it will reduce your annual subscription by two months’ worth at the very least. How Funimation and Crunchyroll work that out is unclear, but it will most likely take the form of two months added onto your premium subscription or a reduction in cost for any future subscriptions.
Either way, you are entitled to a free two months, so it’s important to contact Funimation if you have an existing subscription with them. Ultimately, your subscription will be narrowed from two to one, which will save you some money, in addition to being able to access Wakanim.
All Things Considered
While you can’t log in to your Funimation account from Crunchyroll, it’s all just a part of the process. Pretty soon, you won’t need to, as everything will be rolled into one Crunchyroll platform.
For any additional questions or concerns about your temporarily separate accounts, you can always reach out to Crunchyroll or Funimation support to ensure that your accounts are good to go.
