If you have AT&T Internet, you might find yourself in a position where you need to transfer billing responsibility for your Internet access from yourself to someone else. This situation can happen when households break up or divide out billing responsibilities among the people who live there.

AT&T Internet accounts can be transferred from one person to another if the person responsible for the Internet bill transfers the billing responsibility to another party. This process is done with a four-digit pin code and a digital authorization.

Transferring AT&T Internet to another person isn’t difficult, but you will need to know how it works to pull it off. Keep reading to learn more about the requirements for transferring an AT&T Internet bill to someone else.

Can I Change the Name on My AT&T Account?

If you want to change the name that is associated with your AT&T account, you can do it as long as you have access to your account information on your My Wireless account. This will allow you to adjust the account management settings to transfer the name on the account.

Here’s what to do to change the name on your AT&T account:

  • On the My Wireless account, select My Profile from the navigation bar at the top of the main screen. This will give you access to all of the profile information on your AT&T account. From the My Profile page, select User Information, then Individual Lines. This will give you a list of phone numbers and wireless service lines associated with your account.Select the Internet account on your profile page and then select Edit User Information. From here, you can change the name, email address, and other information associated with the account number.

This transfers the information on the account, but it doesn’t actually transfer billing responsibility for AT&T Internet services. This needs to be done more formally with a pin code.

Transferring Billing Responsibility for AT&T Service

Transferring your AT&T Internet services to another person is different than just changing the username associated with a phone or Internet line. You’ll need to transfer the billing and contract responsibility to the other person and have them verify their consent to the exchange.

There are a few requirements you need to fulfill to successfully transfer your AT&T Internet to another person:

  • Account standing: You can’t transfer a billing contract for AT&T Internet or phone services to another person unless the bill is completely up-to-date and there is no outstanding balance.Bundled services: If you have your AT&T services bundled, they will be billed as separate services when transferred to another person. After two billing cycles, the new contract owner can call in to AT&T to have their services re-bundled.

With these two things in mind, it’s easy enough to transfer billing for your AT&T Internet from one person to another. The only person that is authorized to make this transfer is the person who is in charge of the bill. Other family members, friends, or acquaintances do not have the proper authorization.

For bill transfer, here’s the procedure you need to follow (Source: AT&T):

  • On the Account Management screen, select Transfer Billing Responsibility. After reviewing the account information to confirm that it is correct, create a four-digit PIN code when prompted. This code will be used to verify the transfer of the billing services.Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the transfer of billing responsibility.

  • New contract owners: Once the transfer is made, the person receiving the billing contract has to access AT&T’s account management and click on the Accept Billing Responsibility prompt. The form to fill out can be found here.Follow the on-screen prompts to accept billing responsibility and agree to the Terms of Service.Select Submit.

Once the on-screen prompts are followed, the new person responsible for the AT&T Internet account needs to call AT&T’s customer support. With direct contact and the four-digit PIN code, AT&T customer service representatives should complete and verify the transfer of billing responsibility. The new contract owner will be responsible for associated account billing and any equipment, such as the router (if provided).

Can You Transfer an AT&T Phone Line to Another Person?

AT&T phone lines can be transferred just as easily as AT&T Internet services by following the procedure outlined above. If you have any problems, you always have the option of contacting AT&T’s customer service. They have representatives available that can help walk you through the process of transferring billing responsibility step-by-step if you need help.

AT&T Internet Is Easy to Transfer

Transferring Internet services from one person to another may seem difficult at first. However, as long as you have online access to your Internet account information at AT&T’s main website, transferring billing responsibility from one individual to another isn’t a hard process.

The pin code and other precautions may seem unnecessary, but they’re in place to protect the consumer as well as AT&T during a contract transfer.
