Mobile hotspot is a handy feature available in Windows 10 to share your internet connection with other devices without having to install third-party Wi-Fi hotspot creating software.
In Windows 10 Anniversary Update, Microsoft has made it a little easier to create a mobile hotspot. You no longer need to execute commands from Command Prompt to enable Wi-Fi hotspot. You can navigate to Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile hotspot to share your internet connection with other devices. When you enable a mobile hotspot on your Windows 10 running PC, Windows 10 automatically sets a network name (SSID) and password for the Wi-Fi hotspot. Using that network and password, one can connect to the mobile hotspot from any device that has Wi-Fi.
Although Windows 10 sets a relatively strong password for the mobile hotspot, you might want to change mobile hotspot SSID (name) as well as the password for some reasons.
Change mobile hotspot name and password
Here is how to change your mobile hotspot name (SSID) and password in Windows 10.
NOTE: The ability to create a mobile hotspot from the Settings app was introduced with Anniversary Update (version 1607) for Windows 10. So make sure that you are running Windows 10 version 1607 by typing Winever.exe and then pressing Enter key.
Step 1: Open the Settings app. Navigate to Network & Internet > Mobile hotspot.
Step 2: Under the Mobile hotspot section, you can see the current SSID (name of the Wi-Fi hotspot name) and password. To change the mobile hotspot name or password or both, click the Edit button.
Step 3: Enter a new network name (SSID) and then enter a new password for the network. Click the Save button. Note that the password must be of at least eight characters.
