Microsoft’s very own Edge is getting a new Fluent modern color picker on Windows 10.
If you’re an Insider, you can already test the latest Microsoft Edge Canary update and try out the new color picker.
The Chromium-based browser now has a new Web Platform Fluent Control functionality through its experimental flag.
This change allows Microsoft Edge to shift to a modern color picker, and will act as a replacement for the legacy colour picker. Among other features and several modern elements, it has a more compact UI.
This Microsoft Edge Canary update still lacks some of the web design and Fluent Design elements that some users might have expected.
However, the Fluent modern colour picker seems to have captured the audience’s attention enough for them to forget this minor inconvenience.
According to an official Microsoft commit:
QUICK TIP: If you got tired of your current browser and you’re looking to switch to a new one, why not try UR Browser? It’s fast, secure, privacy compliant and fully customizable.
This change is the first of several to introduce a new popup-based color picker to power the color control…This is the top-level custom element for the color picker implementation. The color picker is compromised of three main parts: a visual color picker to allow visual selection of colors, a manual color picker to allow numeric selection of colors, and submission controls to save/discard new color selections…
Fluent modern color pickers in other browsers
While the Chromium-based Microsoft Edge is still considered a “newcomer” within the browser market, its market share seems to be growing steadily.
- Fast page loading
- VPN-level privacy
- Enhanced security
- Built-in virus scanner
This growth is most likely attributed to the browser being based on Chromium, which uses HTML5.
As some of you may already know, Fluent modern color pickers are part of the HTML5 standard.
Because of this, it should be noted that this feature is already present in several other browsers, and for quite some time now.
Now that Microsoft Edge has received this neat feature, the community eagerly awaits to see what other surprises Microsoft has in store for them.
