Last year, Microsoft held its first annual Windows Developers Awards, in recognition of the developer community for their efforts and feedback in the company’s ongoing effort to constantly improve the Universal Windows Platform and Windows Store.
These awards were given out based on four main categories: App creator of the year, Game creator of the year, Reality mixer of the year, and Core Maker of the year.
Among the nominees for the App creator of the year category – an award that recognizes an app that leverages on the latest Windows 10 capabilities – was CollaBoard, a real-time collaboration solution for all Windows 10 devices and the Surface Hub.
CollaBoard was nominated for its use of cutting-edge technology to develop the app, as well as its ability to incorporate and leverage the latest Windows 10 technologies including Cortana, Ink, Touch and Dial, which was part of the criteria.

Ultimately, CollaBoard didn’t win the award, but it still scored big as the app is now available in Microsoft Store for both Windows 10 PC and mobile, with support for Surface Studio and Dial.
This app is set to change the way teamwork and collaboration is done, as it provides a real-time virtual workspace (or whiteboard) for teams and individuals to work on the same project from different physical locations, and using different devices.
Its functions are made possible by leveraging on natural input methods like digital pen, voice commands and touch, which make it a powerful, innovative and easy to use tool.
Some of the tasks you can fulfill with CollaBoard include immersive brainstorming sessions with your team, create or modify mind maps, hold virtual meetings, sharing of proofs of concept or prototypes, or develop mood and inspirational boards.
The great thing about this app is it is integrated with Skype for Business, so everyone can add ideas and comments in real time as they carry on with the discussion.
It also eliminates meeting inactivity as all team members can add input immediately, and it will show, in real time, on all devices, which also does away with the waiting time to receive feedback or the need for email attachments.
You can also create sticky notes in different colors and sizes, move them around and create a library to get your projects in order, upload data from the cloud, USB sticks or local files.
CollaBoard is available for free with a 30-day evaluation license, after which you can subscribe from just $9.99 a month.
