This month’s Patch Tuesday edition brings one important update to .NET Framework, fixing an annoying error triggered by a previous update. More specifically, after installing the Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), many users encountered app crashes. Fortunately, this problem should be history now thanks to the latest Patch Tuesday updates.

August Patch Tuesday updates for .NET Framework

  • KB4035508: Update for the .NET Framework 4.6, 4.6.1, 4.6.2, and 4.7 on Windows Embedded 8 Standard and Windows Server 2012
  • KB4035509: Update for the .NET Framework 4.6, 4.6.1, 4.6.2, and 4.7 on Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 (KB4035509)
  • KB4035510: Update for the .NET Framework 4.6, 4.6.1, 4.6.2, and 4.7 on Windows Embedded Standard 7, Windows 7 SP1, and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

The three updates come with the same patch notes:

If your system is already affected by this issue, simply download the corresponding update and your apps should no longer crash.

Assume that you have a touch-enabled or stylus-enabled system that has the May 2017 Preview of Quality Rollup for the .NET Framework 4.6, 4.6.1, and 4.6.2 (KB 4104606) installed. After you install the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7, Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) applications may crash and return a COMException error on startup because of an incorrect configuration of COM registrations.

KB4035508, KB4035509 and KB4035510 are not available for automatic download. You can download the stand-alone package for these updates from the Microsoft Update Catalog website. Simply enter the update code into the search bar, hit Enter and download the update.

As a quick reminder, you need to  restart your computer after you apply these updates. Don’t forget to first exit all .NET Framework-based apps before you install these updates.
