In every new Windows 10 Preview build we see Cortana’s integration with a new feature or device. In the most recent Windows 10 Preview build 14332, Microsoft integrated Cortana with Office 365, as you can now search for your Office 365 files, documents, emails, and more with Windows 10’s virtual assistant.
We remind you that Cortana was already available to search for your OneDrive files, but Office 365 integrations brings more options, including emails and files that are not locally stored on your computer.
How to search for Office 365 files with Cortana
First thing you need to do to be able to search for your Office 365 files with Cortana is to connect two features. If you’re not sure how to do that, just follow these steps:
- Open Cortana
- Click on the hamburger menu, and open Notebook
- Go to Connected Accounts
- Now, just turn Office 365 on, and enter your login credentials
Cortana will automatically sync with your Office 365 account, and you’ll be able to search for all your Office 365 content from the taskbar.
Now that you’ve set up Cortana and Office 365 integration, let’s see how this option works. When you search for a specific file, you can choose the filter at the top of Cortana screen, which is a new Cortna feature in build 14332. When you choose a filter, Cortana results will be much more specific. For example, if you choose the ’email filter’ Cortana will search only for emails containing the given keyword.
This is a new feature in Windows 10 Preview, so occasional bugs are possible, but Microsoft should improve it in the coming builds. Microsoft also had some problems with servers upon releasing this build, so some users weren’t able to search for Office 365 files with Cortana, but all technical problems have been solved lately.
