Some users of the Surface Pro 4 may have experienced slow Wi-Fi connection in the past due to a small driver setting that  believed to cause the issue. Now, Surface Pro 4 Wi-Fi seems to be connecting to the internet much faster courtesy of the Windows 10 Creators Update.

On Reddit, one user with the handle Xipotec praised the latest version of Windows 10 for its fast Surface Pro 4 Wi-Fi:

Another user (tripletaco) also experienced the same and corroborated Xipotec’s findings:

Just thought I’d share. It mostly connects instantly now. I used to have problems with auto connect, and when I did it manually I still had to try two or three times until it worked. Since Creators Update I reliably connect to any WiFi when I start up my SP4.

At the WinHEC event in China late last year, Microsoft announced that it would introduce support for the 802.11ad protocol as part of the Creators Update. The company said the goal was to implement faster download speeds for Wi-Fi connectivity.

I noticed the same! Always had trouble connecting to my home network, now it’s almost instant.

However, some users keep experiencing connectivity problems with the Creators Update. Redditor fansurface even had to set a registry key. This method involves the following steps:

  • Press the Windows button and type in Regedit in the Search box.
  • Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\mrvlpcie8897.
  • Look for an item with the label “TXAMSDU”, double tap the item, and modify the value from 1 to 0.
  • Reboot your device.
