Hot on the heels of the seriously flawed October 2018 update, a new issue has arisen from Microsoft’s latest update. This time it would appear that Windows Media Player (WMP) is affected by the cumulative update KB4467702.

Windows 10 KB4467702 issues

I wrote about cumulative update KB4467708 exactly one week ago, and at the time there was only one known issue. Now there is another one on the Windows Support page. Here’s what it says:

As is quite often the norm when known issues are discovered in updates, there is no workaround. Again, from Microsoft:

After installing this update, users may not be able to use the Seek Bar in Windows Media Player when playing specific files.

Okay, let’s be honest here. Not being able to use the seek bar in WMP, because of cumulative update KB4467702, is not exactly earth-shattering news. I am pretty sure that Microsoft has not updated it since 2009. It does play any good video file formats, and its days are almost certainly numbered.

[We are] working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.

In fact, the biggest surprise here is not that users can’t see the seek bar in WMP. The biggest surprise is that anyone noticed.

If you are still using WMP, it is time to do yourself a huge favor, and upgrade to something better. Head over to the VideoLAN, and download the latest version of VLC. Or if you are not a big fan of VLC, download MPC. Both media players are free, open-source, and free of any nasty stuff.
