With the release of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus last year, Apple also unveiled its first ever wireless headphones. These wireless earbuds were given the name Apple AirPods. While these offered and exceptional sound quality, there were many features that were great. Features like accessing Siri by double tapping and automatically pausing music when an earbud is removed etc. were much talked about.
However, with the release of iOS 11, AirPods have been bestowed with ample new features and controls that can be easily customized. With the new iOS 11, AirPods now can easily be customized for assigning functions such as Play and Pause buttons. They can also be customized to navigate to the previous and next track and that too distinctly for each AirPod.
In case you have AirPods and want to have your earbuds tailored, you have landed in the right place.
Customizing AirPods Functions In iOS 11
Note: The customization steps provided below have been tried on iPhone 6s/7/7 Plus. However, they should work for all the devices that have the latest iOS 11 including the latest iPhone 8/8 Plus and iPhone X.
As a preliminary step connect your AirPods to your iPhone before customizing the controls. Once you have connected them to iPhone, proceed with the steps below:
- Navigate to your iPhone Settings. In Setting window scroll down to locate Bluetooth and click on it. From the Bluetooth settings, locate AirPods and then click on the small icon represented a “i” present next to it.
You will not see many options using which you can easily customize the Left and Right AirPods functions individually. To customize the settings for the Left AirPod, simply tap on Left and then from the right panel you can choose the functions as per preference. The functions that can be customized are Siri, Play/Pause/Next Track & Previous Track.
Likewise, the functions for the right AirPod can be customized too. For this tap on Right and then choose the settings as per your preference. The option for the right and left AirPods remains same.
Isn’t that great? You can now have the Airpods work according to your requirements. All credits go to Apple, that they thought of coming up with these innovative and interesting ideas for customers. With iOS 11 users can easily have their AirPods customized as per their needs.
